"Fast becoming a house favourite, the Bednarik, from 1988, is own-rooted Pommard and Wadenswil, 2/3 to 1/3, planted on marine sedimentary soils. In 2023, this was picked a month later than any other Martin Woods Pinots. On the palate, this is concentrated fleshy red fruits, cinnamon, clove, and allspice aromatics push, says Evan Martin. A long, resonating tannin structure and a smoky clove note interplay wonderfully with the ripe, fleshy fruits. Round and rich, beautifully juicy with pomegranate and red strawberries."

"The 2023 Martin Woods Bednarik Vineyard Pinot Noir from the Tualatin Hills presents itself with poise and striking individuality, marked by its intricate spice and earth-driven character on the nose. Aromas of crushed rose petal, wild raspberry, and dried sage drift upward, soon joined by hints of anise seed and Christmas spice. The palate is supple yet refined, carrying flavors of red currant, hibiscus, and a trace of white tea that glide across a finely etched mineral backbone. Its tannins are sleek and graceful, offering support without heaviness, while the mid-palate holds both transparency and quiet intensity. The finish lingers with notes of orange zest and warm spices, leaving an impression of age-worthy energy. Highly recommended."

"The more Volnay of the range, the 2023 Pinot Noir Bednarik Vineyard has a very distinctive and pronounced spice profile, with notes of pomegranate, dried earth, cardamom, and cinnamon. It’s very pretty upfront, with a rosy perfume through it, and it’s medium-framed, with fine tannins, a clean, weightless feel, and a long, attractive finish."
