2023 Mozaik Chardonnay

THE WINE

The Mozaik Chardonnay is a vinous reflection on the Pacific Ocean's beneficial influence in the Willamette Valley. The influence is most marked in the center-west region where the Willamette landscape begins to funnel into the Van Duzer Gap. This gap through the Coast Range mountains allows cool, saline air into the valley, moderating temperatures, extending hang time, and lending the grapes a delicate — but definite — salinity.

Maritime terroirs around the world are proving increasingly advantageous for growing wine grapes, with less extreme variation in historical climate compared to continental terroirs. Our belief is that the greatest of Oregon Chardonnays capture a beautiful note of salinity and marry it to ripe but restrained fruit, an enlivening freshness of acidity, and a palate balance that is both broad and long.

There are two vineyards that compose the 2023 Mozaik Chardonnay — Yamhill Valley Vineyard and Pearlstad Vineyard. These are two of our most western-oriented terroirs that show a clear salinity, owing to both soil and ocean air influences. Put together, the result is a Chardonnay with a rare crystalline mineral texture that we think is remarkably delicious. It is simultaneously a classic expression of the varietal yet one that could only emerge from Oregon.

ACCOLADES

96 Points — International Wine Report — Published Fall 2025 — Reviewed 2023 Vintage
"The 2023 Martin Woods Mozaik Chardonnay from the Willamette Valley glimmers a pale gold with silver reflections, releasing scents of lemon oil, chamomile, and wet stone alongside subtle nutty undertones. The first sip reveals a wine of layered complexity, where juicy nectarine, golden apple, and pineapple mingle with herbal hints of fennel and savory lees. A broad, full texture coats the palate, yet the wine’s precision remains intact thanks to a spine of salinity and lively acidity. As it unfolds, touches of marzipan add depth, while a chalky mineral thread keeps the finish focused. Highly recommended."

"The 2023 Mozaik is a blend of sites, with lemon cream and brightening by verbena, taut acidity, minerality, crisp salted lemon wedge. There's sweet, creamy citrus. Crushed granite minerality and salt. 1/3 local Oregon oak. Lemon curd, chalky minerality, green mangoes, white pepper. Fruit from Pearlstad, on the ‘Eola bench’, an ancient landslide with not much topsoil, creates mineral-focused wines that are lean and electric. Winemaker Evan Martin believes these unique Pearlstad soils are the closest thing to limestone in the Willamette."

"The 2023 Chardonnay Mozaik bursts from the glass with savory herbs, crushed rocks, menthol and lime-laced green apples. It is seamlessly silken in feel, with opulently ripe orchard fruit and nearly glycerol concentration offset by a saline resonance throughout. Spicy notes emerge on the finish, which is incredibly long and full of zesty tension, nearly crunchy in texture. Expertly balanced. This wine is a mix of the Yamhill Valley and Pearlstad Vineyards.”

With this wine and vintage, we’ve curated suggested pairings across three art forms we love and celebrate regularly alongside wine: music, film, and food.

Our hope is that this bottle inspires you to gather around the table, put on a record, prepare a meal together, maybe even watch a film, and stay for the conversations that follow. A reminder to slow down, connect in real life, and embrace the beauty of the analog.
