Driven by a passion for discovering & sharing the great wine terroirs of Oregon

Wines that evoke a sense of place
Gracefulness is Power
Elegance is Complexity
Tension is Harmony
Martin Woods is hidden in the oak-forested Coast Range foothills near the town of McMinnville, a neighborhood advantageously influenced by cool Pacific ocean air. The winery is also the home of owner/winemaker, Evan Martin.
A Martin Woods wine promotes the notions of graceful power and elegant complexity — a beautifully balanced tension of opposites that can only result from the combination of great terroir, observant farming, and meticulous, patient winemaking.
Evan continues to push the boundaries of what Willamette Valley Chardonnay and Pinot Noir can and should be, while simultaneously exploring limited productions of Syrah, Riesling and other varietals, each project inspired and informed by the truly benchmark wines of the Old World.

Winemaker Evan Martin shares the story and intention behind the ethereal, terroir-driven wines of Martin Woods Winery.
‘Rare Species’ Collection
It began in 2009 with a curiosity around a dwindling native Oregon oak species, and led to an adventurous 12-year experiment. The risk has demonstrated a compelling reward. Winemaker Evan Martin’s quest to make ethereal wines completely unique to the terroir of the Willamette Valley, is now becoming a reality.
Recent Reviews & News
Jessie James Pinot Noir
Jessie James Vineyard, Eola-Amity Hills
98 Points - International Wine Report: "The 2023 Martin Woods Jesse James Vineyard Pinot Noir from the Eola-Amity Hills stands as a profound expression of site and vintage, uniting elegance with intensity. Aromas unfold slowly…The length is striking, carrying flavors in a seamless arc that resonates for over a minute. It feels like stepping into a candlelit piano bar where every note lands with intention and energy. Kudos to Evan Martin - so much talent and for only $65?! Highly recommended and editor’s choice."
98 Points - Jeb Dunnuck: "The 2023 Pinot Noir Jessie James Vineyard is exceptional and offers both finesse and power, reminiscent of Vosne-Romanée in style. Layered and complete with leather, ripe framboise, pressed herbs, mossy earth, and a mineral frame, it’s full-bodied, with refined tannins and stunning length. This is possibly the best wine I have tasted from Martin Woods to date."
Temperance Hill Chardonnay
Temperance Hill, Eola-Amity Hills
97 Points - Decanter: “…Taut, mineral and fragrant with a note of wild white florals, this wine brilliantly balances acid and tension with depth of concentrated Meyer lemon pulp. There's a soaring salinity and acidity; it's intense, fresh, and dynamic. This is his first vineyard-designated Temperance Hill Chardonnay, but will certainly not be the last. A masterclass in Eola-Amity Chardonnay terroir, undeniably one of the country's top appellations for this noble variety."
96 Points - International Wine Report: "The 2023 Martin Woods Temperance Hill Vineyard Chardonnay from the Eola-Amity Hills shimmers in the glass with a pale straw hue edged in silver…Texture carries both polish and verve, finishing with lingering impressions of crushed rock and delicate spice. This Chardonnay is precise yet expansive, a wine that evolves with air and rewards patience. Driver now or over the next 15 years."
The Rocks Syrah
The Rocks District of Milton-Freewater, OR
97 Points - International Wine Report: "The 2023 Martin Woods Syrah from The Rocks District is a dazzling expression of site and style, bursting with aromatic lift and depth…This vintage cements Syrah from The Rocks District as both singular and world-class in its expression. This Syrah would pair beautifully with slow-braised short ribs over creamy polenta. Highly recommended."
96 Points - Decanter: Savoury and poised, this Syrah, a blend of two Rocks District sites, Rockbar and River Rock Vineyard, expresses the classic terroir of this region, one that stands alone in its expression here in the New World. Aromas of dense bramble berries, smoke, Chinese five spice and dessicated violets. The palate exhibits a lively elegance that is often lacking in wines from this appellation. There’s a lift to the red fruits that streak through an umami-driven flavour profile of hoisin, smoky soy and Moroccan spices."

“Evan Martin works like a mad scientist (I mean that in the best possible way), experimenting and tinkering with his small yet truly noteworthy portfolio. Moreover, the range of wines remains fairly priced for the quality and unique personality he packs into each bottle… The Martin Woods wines are pure, complex, lively, and seemingly deep beyond their years.”
